When and where does the club meet ?

The Mid-Cities Scrabble® Players Club meets each Tuesday evening (except holidays) at 6:45 p.m. at Taco Bueno, 1528 Airport Freeway, Bedford, TX.

Our players' skill levels range from novice to expert, and about everywhere in-between. Though our club could be classified as "competitive", there are also players who don't play in tournaments and just play for sheer enjoyment.

Directions:

If you are coming from the north on 121, be in the left lane as you near 183. This will be the lane that will feed you right into the Bedford exit. Go past the light at Bedford Road and just before the next light at Brown Trail, you can turn into Taco Bueno. If you miss that little turnoff, just turn right at the traffic light and Taco Bueno will be on your right.

If coming from Arlington/Grand Prairie, go north on 360 or 157. Take 183 west to the Bedford Road/Brown Trail exit. Go past the light at Bedford Road and just before the next light at Brown Trail, you can turn into Taco Bueno. If you miss that little turnoff, just turn right at the traffic light and Taco Bueno will be on your right.

If coming from Dallas on 183, exit at the Bedford Road/Brown Trail exit. Go past the light at Bedford Road and just before the next light at Brown Trail, you can turn into Taco Bueno. If you miss that little turnoff, just turn right at the traffic light and Taco Bueno will be on your right.

How much does it cost and are there prizes ?

We pay $2 per night to play. Most of that goes toward providing a site for our yearly tournament which is traditionally held in June.

Each night except the last night of the month there is a $1 prize for the person who gets closest to the magic score. Each night each player puts his name in a box for a month-end drawing for a $5 prize. On each player's birthday month, he receives a birthday card with 2 $1 certificates to be spent toward dues whenever he wishes.

Is the club associated with a national organization and do I need to become a member ?

Our club (Club #248) is sanctioned by the National Scrabble® Association (NSA)  in Greenport, NY. We use the word lists approved by the NSA, as well as agreeing to abide by the tournament and club rules set forth in the official rulebook.

If you wanted to play in tournaments you would need to join the NSA for $20 per year. You can wait till after your first tournament to become a member. With membership, you received the most recently edited version of a national club list, Official Tournament Rules, and a copy of the most recently published periodical "Scrabble® News" which is sent approximately 8 times per year.
